Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast

Pre-Investigation

The Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast is located at 2410 Ellis Avenue just a block off Exchange Street in the historic Ft. Worth Stockyards. The Inn was built in 1935 and 1936 and was originally known as the Myrtle Robbins Boarding House. Mrs. Robbins also ran a boarding house at 124 ½ West Exchange Street near the current Cadillac Bar. Parts of her first boarding house were used in the construction of the Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast. The building was owned by Mrs. Robbins until 1980 and was operated as a rooming house through the early 1990s. The current owner purchased the property in 2001 and has restored it into the current Bed and Breakfast.

There were no reports of paranormal activity from the current owners or managers however our group felt like this old building was worth a shot. Located in the historic Stockyards which is home to so many haunted locations, this Bed and Breakfast was a natural location for us to investigation. We were very grateful to the owner and manager to have this opportunity.

Investigation

On April 8, 2009, the Stockyards Paranormal Investigation team visited the Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast. Our team for tonight consisted of Monica, Cheryl, Casey, Paula, Shirley, and Kevin. After a quick tour of the premises we divided into teams with one team working upstairs and one team downstairs. The teams later switched areas. We covered all the available rooms both upstairs and downstairs and experienced very little activity in the first session. No EVPs were picked up and nothing unusual was captured in the photographs.

Casey and Cheryl reported seeing a dark shadow while in the Boot Room. Cheryl had a feeling as if someone was standing right next to her. At about this same time, Casey captured an orb in a photograph. The orb in the picture appears to be a typical dust orb; however, since this spirit claimed to be following the group I thought we would include it. The orb picture was taken in one of the upstairs rooms. Also, no other orbs were photographed that night by any of the investigators.

The group consisting of Cheryl, Monica, and Casey, experienced activity using a K2 meter in what they termed as the “Buffalo Room” because of the buffalo hide bedspread. For several minutes they were able to communicate with a spirit by asking yes/no response-type questions. The K2 meter would light up beyond the first light level if the answer appeared to be “yes”. If the answer appeared to be “no”, then the K2 meter remained on the first light level.

The questions and answers revealed that the spirit was a 9 year old boy who was looking for his mother. His “yes” responses to our questions indicate that (a) he knows that the current year is 2009, (b) he had followed this group from room to room throughout the evening, (c) the orb in Casey’s photo was him, (d) he likes to play tricks on the people who work at the Inn, (e) he likes horses, and (f) he enjoys making the lights flicker on the K2 meter. The investigators invited him to touch them and to jump on the bed (which the investigators were sitting upon during the K2 session), but he did not do either. After several moments of no activity on the K2 meter, the investigators assumed the spirit had left the room or was getting tired of the “game”. Cheryl mentioned moving the investigation to the kitchen at which point the K2 meter lit up to its highest level. Thinking the spirit had returned to the room, the investigators continued to ask questions, but did not get any further responses except to another mention of the kitchen. At the second mention of the kitchen, the K2 meter once again flashed to the highest light level. With that, the group decided to move the investigation to the kitchen; however, no further activity occurred. It should be noted that no unusual EMF readings were noted during the initial sweeps. The average readings in each room was .1 to .2 which is too low to activate the K2 meter.

Stockyards Paranormal would like to thank the management of the Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast for allowing us to conduct this investigation. We were greatly impressed with this location as a charming part of Ft. Worth’s history.
