Old Town Quilts

On Saturday January 31, 2009 the Stockyards Paranormal Investigation team returned to Old Town Quilts in Keller, Texas. We had conducted an investigation here in February 2007. To read about the previous investigation and the history of this building located in Old Town Keller refer to the previous entry on our website. This is one of the oldest buildings in Keller, dating back to the turn of the 19th century. The home was owned by the White family, one of Keller’s early founding families.

Reports of paranormal activity in this old home include the appearance of an apparition of a woman, strange noises, items going missing, and items mysteriously falling off shelves. Our previous investigation turned up several unusual photos which we could not explain. Two spirits are felt to inhabit this location. One is that of previous owner Lyda White and the other is her son Bryan White.

Tonight’s team consisted of regulars Cheryl and Kevin. We were joined by two new team members. Paula has been a guest of ours on several previous investigations and we are delighted to have her as a regular team member. The other new team member is Shirley and this is her first investigation. Old Town Quilts owner Becky Harness along with her daughter Mary Katherine and her boyfriend were also with us.

During the evening we investigated the various rooms in both small and large groups. We experimented with playing some very old records that had belonged to Lyda and these certainly enhanced the mood and feel of the home. Throughout the night we kept hearing different sounds or noises which we tried to reconcile as normal house noises, but were difficult to pin down. While in the back room, Cheryl experienced a cold spot which seemed to encompass her arm and hand. At this time the digital temperature gauge showed that this arm was about 10 degrees colder than her other arm.

At one point we had a group in the back room and everyone heard what sounded like footsteps walking across the floor in the next room. Investigation showed that no one was there and we could not account for this noise. Paula was able to capture a very bright orb photo in one of the rooms. Taking photos in sequences of two, the first photo shows the orb while in the second photo it is not there.

Kevin captured an EVP that was taken from the main room in the house. Kevin had left his audio recorder in this room while the team was working in an adjacent room. We had focused on trying to speak to Bryan during the evening and directed the majority of our questions to him. The EVP seems to be a male voice. The first word is easy to make out as “Brian”. The second part of the EVP is a little more difficult to hear but seems to say “is fine”.

It should be noted that Becky has accumulated several old items that belonged to Keller citizens from years ago. One theory that persists is that spirits can be connected to individual items and that is it possible for spirits to move to new locations when these items are moved. We don’t dismiss the possibility that acquiring these items could bring new spirits to the house.

We had another great evening at Old Town Quilts and enjoyed spending time with our friend Becky. If you’ve never visited Old Town Quilts you’ve missed out. This is a piece of our local history that should be experienced. Even if you’re not into quilts most people would enjoy checking out a home that is a part of North Texas history. Old Town Quilts is located on Olive Street in Keller. Old Town Keller features many of Keller’s oldest homes that are now used as shops or restaurants and is a great place to visit and browse.
